A friend needed cash so.....I have another 16 gauge double I know nothing at all about.

Post by JunkCollector »

I think it's of German manufacture.
It has two names on the barrel
I think one is the area of Germany it came from.
It does have nitro on the barrels as well.

It has a Monte Carlo stock and is very light weight.
Anyone have any insight about it ?

There were three brothers by the name of Ulrich that were engravers at the turn of the century, They worked for Remington, Winchester and Marlin but none of their names began with an A.

Things you will not see today:

"Let's put scallops on the rear of the receiver so we can show off how good we are at fitting wood to steel"
WWJMBD?

I believe we should stand on Ceremony. . . while our friends handcuff the sanctimonious little prick and take him away.

"Oh yeah. . .and let's also engrave the trunnion the barrel hinges on. . .that pretty much nobody will will ever see unless they're doing a deep clean"

One of my favorite little old world quirks like that is on my WWII production .38S&W Webley MKIV revolver. Rollmarked onto the frame are the words "WAR FINISH". I mean seriously - Great Britain was fighting for its very existence, and a committee made the corporate decision to take the time to make the statement that "We were very busy during this period, and just wanted to make it very clear that this is NOT how we of Webley & Scott ordinarily choose to do business"
WWJMBD?

I knew I saw those proof marks before! I believe they are German. That could very well be German or Belgian. We really need Mile to check this out. There were a lot of Belgian doubles imported at the turn of the century.

If I've got this right there should appear something on German Proof Marks.

I've been finding out bits and pieces so far.
The barrels are fluid steel from Belgium that's the LLH

The proofs are definitely German.
Both barrels are choked
Has a greener cross bolt and cocking indicators

Not unusual being with Belgian made barrels as some English Gunmakers source their tubes from Belgium too.

Thanks buddy
German guns can be hard to figure out I've learned.
Very few put company names on them....like JP Sauer and Sohn did.

I've figured out some.....all good so far.
Fluid steel barrels, nitro proofed, greener cross bolt,
I'm hoping the engraving will be the tell.
It so far seems to date between 1912- 23

I put a call out to german gun collectors they will do it as a free service..
