Had to get a new set of tires for the F250. Almost $1800 mounted, balanced, and installed! Granted, they’re 275/70R18 Duelers, but sheesh…

I get roughly 40-50k mi on the 265/75r16 BFG KO2s on my 4x4 Taco

I am looking at a set for my 3/4 ton & they are 20" & $500 each for the cheapest ones .
Add to that $200 in gas & it's expensive to drive !

Yep, just put 275/50/20s on my wife's car and it was $1400 out the door.

What tires are you buying that only last 20K miles?? When I had my Taco I would get 50-90K out of my tires depending on brand.

My two favorites, for what its worth, were Michilen LTX MS2's (now called Defender LTX), and BFG KO2's.

Currently using Falken Wildpeaks on my Outback, with Blizzak WS90's for the winter. Good enough, I just hate the car. When I get back to a body on frame SUV it will get shod in KO2's.

The Colorado was just rough on tires. I know several people that got similar mileage out of tires on theirs. My old '96 K1500 would need tires due to dry rot before wear. Driving like a **** or driving like an old man made a difference of about 1k miles in the Colorado. I ran the original Wrangler tires and Cooper tires.

My 3/4 ton work truck that pulls 14,000 pounds every day (that means 10 ply tires to you laymen) and plows in the winter finally needs new tires after 50,000 miles. Actually, I needed them since spring but my budget has helped me extend the life of them through the summer. Anyway, a decent new set of AT's is only going to run me $800 installed. Yes, I am buds with the local independent tire guy, (I go through trailer tires like a madman) but still.

Buy your tires at the place Justsomedude suggested, Amazon, or Ebay then take them to a local independent place to have them mounted and balanced. I only pay $20/wheel to have that done.

Sometimes there are advantages to living in the boonies. I buy my tires from a guy not far from here in a little town, a 1 man shop. I have shopped around and it is hard to beat his prices and he has a truck every day so you don't have to wait long if it is not in stock. When I was working the jeep took at least 2 sets a year plus all the other crap I have I buy from him often. I picked up 4 implement tires last month.I traded my jeep for a pickup and it has 20 inch tires, I am scared to price them.

The Tacoma came with Goodyear Wrangler AT's - initial results have been promising, but deer season will be the real test of how they do in the dirt. Should be a good spell before they need replacement with ?????, but memories of buying 31x10.50's Bridgestones for my old Land Cruiser waken my wallet's PTSD.

I think the '78 Corolla I learned to drive on had 13" rims. I think a whole set of the GOOD tires for that thing didn't add up to what one of the modern dirt-pounders do...

My stepsons keep low miles on their vehicles. One has a work van and the other lives 1/4 mile from work. He just got a new job though. His commute just increased dramatically to ....... 2 1/2 miles!

My commute is 37 miles each way. That was one of the perks of leasing a new truck every two years. Didn't need to buy tires.

I had a set of Wrangler ATs on my Tacoma for a bit. They are a very good OEM tire and I don't think you'll find them wanting on fire service roads, etc. I even took my Taco to Moab on the milder trails with the Wranglers without issue. I switched to BFG KO2s and never looked back, but snow performance was very important to me (the 3 peak severe weather rating is a big perk) and it wasn't for lack of satisfaction with the Wranglers. In your locale IMO you have no reason to ditch those tires before they just wear out.

He always complained about being poor and would eat Ramen and PB&J everyday but lease things like mustangs and other higher end stuff. He even came in one day with a new yamaha motorcycle fully dressed up. Still complained about being poor

Funniest thing was when he got a hole in the sidewall of his mustang tire so he patch plugged it and came in with a new SUV the following Monday

That happens in the military a lot. Young 18 year olds, first paycheck figuring they’ll be sleeping in the base dorms eating in the mess hall for free. They run out and get a crazy muscle car , a M model BMW or a Cadillac Escalade at 20% interest because they have no credit history. The other half of their paycheck goes to insurance and gas, then they meet a girl and all they can swing is McDonald’s for a date…. My son tries to guide the newbies but the parking lot is still full of them.

He was just telling me about one of his Airmen, drives a brand new Ford F-350. He said the gas tank has never been above the reserve mark
