Used handgun counter got me this time
Used handgun counter got me this time
Stopped by one of my local places today to look around for components. No luck there for things I needed though. I wandered by the used counter and something caught my attention. I noticed a Ruger GP100 in a caliber I didn't expect. I'm a sucker for 10mm, and that was the magic number on the tag.
When I got home I did some looking and this did not leave the factory as a 10mm. It looks as though this gun left Ruger in 2009 as a .357 magnum. This is a conversion that I need to do some more research on.

Oh, heck yes, that would have followed me home as well. I am really interested in how it shoots and a range report

Lipsey's lists 2 GP-100 10mms. So 10mm GP-100 parts are out there

Re: Used handgun counter got me this time
I know that Ruger offers a GP100 in 10mm now, but I don't think they did in 2009. Then again looking at the carry case for it, it for sure started life as a .357.
Some digging suggests it may have been a Clements Custom Guns conversion. The shop is no longer in business, so I can't really confirm that. If memory is correct, that was the shop I was contemplating having do a 10mm conversion on my GP100 in .357. I guess in a round about way I now have that conversion.

That might explain why my search for CCG 10mm revolver came up empty

The name comes up a fair bit when searching, but no pictures of that CCG marking though. I will have to do more digging still.

Depending on the price I would have brought it home myself...

I did find this on GB.

Nice find, congrats. I've been jonesing for a GP100 3" 10mm for a long time but they just command to high a price these days assuming you can even find one.
Re: Used handgun counter got me this time
Great find. There just isn't that many of them out there

Nice grab. That will be a fun gun in 10mm.
Re: Used handgun counter got me this time
Looks like a typical Ruger metal finish to me. Ruger isnt exactly known for having really nice metal finish work. If memory is correct every non beadblasted finish Ruger I have has about the same metal finish quality to it. There were many reasons that they had a lower price point than a comparable S&W. Even then, I have a few S&W revolvers that dont have much better of a finish on the metal.
I do need to clean this one as it has a lot of powder residue. It was obviously used a fair bit.

That is pretty cool, I would have pumped the brakes if I saw that in the cabinet too
