The Guns & Outdoors Shooting Bench
The Guns & Outdoors Shooting Bench
Thought Id make a new thread what for the googles to do its bot thing, maybe more people could find this place through a search. I found this through a google search, found on the snipers hide forum. Not exactly as theirs was made, but similar. Cut from 3/4 inch plywood, the ends need to be radiused because sharp corners are not civilized. You can get 2'x4' sections of plywood at most box stores to save from having to buy a full sheet if you dont have a use for a full sheet.
The top is screwed down to a folding sawhorse, which can be found at Lowes, Home Depot, Menards, Harbor Freight, and Amazon. I fully recommend getting the one with the adjustable legs so you can tailor it to your or a youngsters needs. The hole for the handle in my opinion isnt optional, but a requirement. Makes schlepping it around easier.

Re: The Guns & Outdoors Shooting Bench
How is that sturdy on only on saw horse?
Re: The Guns & Outdoors Shooting Bench
Sturdy.
The horses are rated for like 1300 pounds each.
I was ringing an 8” steel at 740 yards from it. So it can’t be too wobbly.

Re: The Guns & Outdoors Shooting Bench
Now. If you bump it just walking up, it’s going to move. When you get your self settled and put weight on it, it’s sturdy.

Re: The Guns & Outdoors Shooting Bench
One key is keeping the weight over the centerline of the horse. That way all the weight is equally distributed over the centerline of the horse.

The folding sawhorse makes that a nice rig. No assembly folds flat easy enough to tote where ever. Do you have a portable seat? I have a folding camp stool but don’t know if the height woks with the height of the sawhorse
But what really caught my eye was the adjustable rest!

Is there a special cut out design model for the extra fat sniper? Asking for a friend

Nice.
I see you slummed on the build, what with using wood.

Don't forget it's susceptible to water damage, non-ferrous, and prone to splintering.
It is organic. Kinda.

Re: The Guns & Outdoors Shooting Bench
So, from the looks of it, if you wanted to suspend some weights from the front and back of the sawhorse for a bit more stability (maybe) looks like you could try that?

You could hang rubber wieners from it if you so desired.breamfisher wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 1:07 pm So, from the looks of it, if you wanted to suspend some weights from the front and back of the sawhorse for a bit more stability (maybe) looks like you could try that?
Drilling the feet of the saw whores and driving beefy tent stakes through them may be easier than carting extra weights or a bunch of rubber wieners.

Yeah, but then you have to carry a hammer, and those things are heavy.

I was using a swivel hunting chair. Soooooo nice for sitting in a blind. And the nice thing about the adjustable legs is you can adjust it to the chair height.
The rest is a loooong story. Planned on making them, but it didn’t pan out.

Or you can look around and pick up a BFR and use it.breamfisher wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 2:01 pm Yeah, but then you have to carry a hammer, and those things are heavy.

Re: The Guns & Outdoors Shooting Bench
How did you attach the wood top to the sawhorse?
Gonna make one these. My son will get the sawhorse from Harbor Freight this morning and I’ve got the plywood already.

Missed this one before. Perfect for the back of the Gladiator
Re: The Guns & Outdoors Shooting Bench
I’ll take some better pics when I get home, but, there’s four screw holes in the horse that you can use to attach it. And I used 1/4-20 flathead bolts so that there isn’t anything stuck above the surface
Actually you can seen them in the pics.

Re: The Guns & Outdoors Shooting Bench
There’s a right and wrong way to attach the top.
Just because of how it folds. If you have the horse turned one way, when you have you hand in the top handle, the buttons are on the bottom. And yes, it IS that big of a deal. It’s annoying.

NICE!
Urbanity is starting to dictate travel to the howling desert in order to shoot farther than golf-putt yardage. That looks compact and light enough to not impede too much with the other crap that needs to go in the trucks.
What's your thoughts on converting the attachment to wing nuts and carriage bolts? Might make for a more compact transport package, plus I have some left-handed friends who survived the "should-be-drowned-at-birth" edict, so ability to flip the top over might have occasional benefits.
