Oh yeah. . .we like this thing!
A couple 12 shot groups from the middle of the tested range with Titegroup today, using a 6:00 hold on the bottoms of the 4" squares. Got the 255 grainer up to about 650 fps with Lyman's max load - may take it a teeny bit hotter; may just leave it be. It'll depend on the same load's comfort for my Dad in his Mountain Gun - which, despite having a 4" barrel seems to throw a little faster than this thing. There's definitely no windage problems (YAY!), and the fact that these loads are hitting a little bit high at 25 yards indicates they'll PROBABLY be dead on at 50. Pretty giddy at this point.
I've definitely got to figure out a new/better technique for benching iron pistol sights - between height for the chronograph and the range's bench, I couldn't figure out a way to lean my head back far enough for the "near" of my progressive lenses to start kicking in - so the results you see were through the distance prescription, WWI's idea of combat sights, and the sun flaring in from 10:00. Might try a shorter stool next time.
The single action trigger on this thing is what every single action trigger should be. . .but isn't. It's probably breaking around 5 pounds, and gives absolutely ZERO indication that it's going to. . .until it does. Too bad that's a feature I almost never use when I have the DA option any more, but it was a very nice dose of "Yes, the old boys knew what they were about".
So, some more fiddle-farting to do with loads, and still waiting on the grips, but SHE LIVES!
