Looks Great. I bet it shoots straight too
I have several factory options. Not used for built guns. Gonna try them in this one as it will not be a high volume rifle. A couple two or three boxes would last awhile.

That looks great! Get an offset front ring, it won't look bad. When I installed the stock on mine I had the same problem, I shortened the LOP.
If I did that, I’m afraid the objective would touch the rear sight.
Give it a try, the worst that could happen is it stays where it's at. There seems to be some room for adjustment.

We shall see. Gonna range session it first.

Hopefully soon. Want to get an axis as soon as it cools.
Might have a few months. Ha!

Just a random thought. Not saying I’d do it.
But, if she shoots…….well…….ive passingly thought of fixing her up. New stock from Boyd’s and maybe a rebule. There is no collectors value in this rifle. But, making her look pretty could be fun. Just don’t know why kind of cost that would entail. And the validity of it.
Boyd’s stocks aren’t expensive and I can make it as nice a grade as I want. Blueing, I don’t know what that costs these days.
Just a passing thought.

For what it’s worth, I like making old guns “pretty” again it even upgrading them aesthetically to My taste. Doesn’t mean I don’t like/respect scars and use wear. I just like adding MY scars and use/wear to them.

And Justsomedude does some of the prettiest polishing and bluing I’ve ever seen. And he’s just great to work with!

Nah, he’s proven he CAN have “nice things”. He just doesn’t leave them in the safe to gather dust

The only concern would be restocking it could make it shoot different. Maybe, maybe not. Just a thought

True. It was just a dream. If it shoots great or acceptable for a 1968 firearm, I may just leave it original. But then, I see pictures of dolled up Savage 99s, and damn. They are pretty.

Yeah. Even if I don’t reblue. Walnut would be nice.

Well, she doesn’t like 100gr bullets.

- IMG_8204.jpeg (6.43 MiB) Viewed 3050 times
Tried some factory 100gr Hornady InterLok I had. At 50 yrds, thy hit oblong and didn’t group.

- IMG_8205.jpeg (4.48 MiB) Viewed 3050 times
So I switched to the only other ammo I’d brought which was 58gr Winchester ballistic tips.

- IMG_8206.jpeg (4.81 MiB) Viewed 3050 times
So, I moved to 100 yards. And it didn’t do bad for a heavy/long trigger (3 breaths) and a 7x scope.

Gives me some hope. And I’ll come back with some 85gr bullets suitable for medium game and see if I can’t get her sighted in.
I love this rifle. A pleasure to handle and a thrill to have. Pray she likes the 85s.

The first round out of the barrel cooled with every group seems to land apart from the rest. Whether that’s the characters of this particular rifle or the shooter having to “get back in the groove” of this particular trigger, remains to be seen.

Looks like this one will make you work for it. All the better! Glad it’s settling in for you. Did you make sure the stock is tight?
