Sorry that I'm late to the show. You have enough room to convert that to a coil spring. You just need a spring to put pressure on it being the sear. Use the screw that retained the old spring, make a perch with a relief for a coil spring to sit into and push against the sear. You may have to inlet the wood a bit.

I really like that Idea! I wish I had kept the old spring! I'll need to fabricate a perch. A small tab on a hooked end will hold the spring in place, maybe a small machine screw. I'll need to work on this.Justsomedude wrote: ↑Sat Jan 10, 2026 7:38 am Sorry that I'm late to the show. You have enough room to convert that to a coil spring. I've built this rifle using traditional techniques including Farris Oxide for the stock and rust blued barrel, I will need to try both techniques.
Thanks for the advice guys. It will be an interesting project.

I found a spring! eBay is my best friend. The seller post he had sold 27 and had 3 left. I bought two. I installed it today and dry tested it. It works well and the trigger isn't bad!Too late for this year but it will be fun to do a load work-up this summer. I'm ready for next year "If God is willing and the creek don't rise".
