Me, I'd go for BP only.

Interesting question
If there were a new scratch built pin fired revolver pre capped with say a large pistol primer and loaded with smokeless powder behind a 240gr .45 slug does that qualify as a regulated firearm?

That's a good question. I guarantee that the alphabet people would feel slighted at the idea and rewrite their "rule" on it. They don't just take the L anymore and accept defeat like they used to when someone would find a workaround. Now they make an example of them. Maybe I should start a pinfire revolver company.

Pictures of the 8 bore because, it's an 8 bore πŸ‘

And I looking forward to this 32 pinfire project. Keep us updated.

Trying to wrap my brain around how one would handle the sizing, belling, seating, etc. . .of pinfire brass without a case head to grip in a press.

Guessing you'd have to use something like the old Lee Loader and knock cases out with a rod and hammer? Wondering if grooved, but rimless .30 carbine brass would have a place in this kinda/sorta, but not really historically accurate approach?

Well, this is going to be a complete hillbilly endeavor. I'll cut the rim off of brass in the lathe and solder the flash hole closed, then drill a 2mm hole in the side at the rear for the pin. When it comes to seating I'll be pressing them in with my mill vice, cuz that's what I have. I just want to make smoke and noise from a gun that's likely not been fired in 100 years.

I wear kilts, Zorba wears skirts.
We both like weird things... 😐
It suits me.
Not all skirts are kilts, but all kilts are skirts!

The gun is obviously pre-1898 and considered an antique. There's a few articles around on the 'net on how to make or adapt pinfire ammo.

Castle, I have a couple of 8 bores; one a double by Joseph Lang and a single by Thomas Daintith of Warrington. I'll post something in a couple of days.

Well I got the barrel rifled. I had to hone out what damage I could, so it took the bore more open than I'd like it be prior to pushing the rifling button through it, but it's good enough for what it is.

Interesting.
What are rifling buttons made of and how long do they last?
Thanks for the update!

They are tool steel with a titanium nitride coating so they should last quite a while under normal use. I did a test barrel with a piece of 12L14 steel that I drilled and reamed then used my 25 caliber button to push through and it made pristine rifling in it.
