UK candy (Hey T'owd Mon)

Post by GrapeApe »

Was watching a "How it's Made" type show from the UK, "Inside the Factory" or something like that. They were at the Nestle factory where Aero candy is made. I found some listed on Amazon and ordered a couple of types

I got the mint "Bubbles"

and the orange bar

Took nearly a month for it to "cross the pond" and it got warm along the way. It was "warm" when I took it out of the box. So into the fridge it went for a couple of hours.

The mint bubbles had a mild flavor or, in the spirit of where it came from "flavour". After 3 or 4, you could actually taste a little mint. The Orange bar had even less orange flavor to it.
While it's interesting trying candy from other countries, I can't say I'll be ordering any more of these, however, if I do, it'll be during winter.

The first "foreign" candy I ever tried was back in '77-78 when my friend and his family went to West Germany and Austria to see his grandparents. He brought me a bag of Haribo Gummy bears years before they were sold in this country

Here's what the German Haribo bag looked like then.

I checked Haribo's website and it says they came to the US in 1982.
I was in 5th Grade when I got them and was a sophomore/junior in '82. I kept the empty bag for years as a souvenir.

The local Haribo gummy bears use sorbitol which is a laxative. You should read the Amazon reviews 😂

Those look interesting Alec, but they're double the price in your picture on Amazon
