Pinfire rifle.
I got started (roughed out) on the 50 caliber pinfire. I'm going for a simple design and I'm using a 1" diameter piece of O1 drill rod as the bolt/breech block for the falling block. It's a bit "over built." This thing will probably in all seriousness be able to function with heavy smokeless loads, but it's going to use 60 grains of 777 powder in the 500 S&W Magnum brass that im using. The reciever is medium carbon steel and its oversized at the moment because I wanted enough material to be able to contour everything into the stock and forearm when I'm done. I'm also fairly certain the wood was donated by @Grapeape from his M77 that I built. The barrel is a Green Mountain blank that I cut the tenon and threaded but am yet to contour, hence why the mock up has the forearm looking funny. It'll be a simple lever design to raise and lower the breech block and a hammer that swings from the side and not over the top to hit the cartridge pin. I still have a ways to go but even getting to this point was pretty quick. And drilling and reaming a 1" hole took longer than you'd expect.

That based on those drawings?

That’s cool!!! A Ferguson rifle style breech setup could be amazing!

Then technically, the wood is from Teach's 6.5-06, that he replaced my 77 with, after he lost it.Justsomedude wrote: ↑Sun May 18, 2025 8:19 pm<snip> I'm also fairly certain the wood was donated by @Grapeape from his M77 that I built. <snip>
Interesting looking build, I can't wait to see how it progresses.

I forgot about that. I just know that you said I could hang onto it so it's technically from youGrapeApe wrote: ↑Sun May 18, 2025 10:37 pmThen technically, the wood is from Teach's 6.5-06, that he replaced my 77 with, after he lost it.Justsomedude wrote: ↑Sun May 18, 2025 8:19 pm<snip> I'm also fairly certain the wood was donated by @Grapeape from his M77 that I built. <snip>

I appreciate that. I'm going to try to make this thing a piece of art when it's done. Nice hot blue finish a mile deep and beautiful contours. I got partially finished with the barrel contouring today and can get onto the reciever shaping after that because I need to see where the forearm will sit exactly. I can't wait to fire it. Should be a hammer!

Got the barrel contoured and most of the excess removed from the reciever. It's actually starting to look like something now.

Re: Pinfire rifle.
Ironically I always do these things from my head because if I put it to paper or try to write up plans or blue prints, it never works
.
I'm thinking the fun part is going to be milling out the pocket for the internals of the hammer pivot shaft and trigger and then making a side plate to enclose it again. I'm pretty sure that'll be next.

Same, even being the one making it. It's awesome to see it go from a vision in my mind to a real thing.Wambli Ska wrote: ↑Wed May 21, 2025 1:36 pm Totally loving the transition from relatively raw materials to a beautiful gun!!

I was thinking last night, I'm kind of scared to ship it once I'm finished with it. Regardless of who I use, insurance can't really replace it and I learned the hard way that USPS absolutely won't pay up even if you prove the items value. I'll probably just hand deliver it on a visit to come see you whenever we set that up and I bring all these other "projects"
