Pedersoli sharps

Post by Kansashunter »

I need to figure out what this rifle is worth. It was made for cabelas 7 or 8 years ago. It is in like new condition, has around a 22 inch barrel. It does not have a set trigger and the wood is OK but no figure and no engraving. The fit and finish is pretty good just not fancy. I am fighting the urge to buy it. Any ideas on what it's worth?

A pic would help if you can provide one...I assume we're talking about a .45-70?

The 22 inch barrel would make it a carbine...most likely the Pedersoli 1874 Cavalry Carbine...

yes 45-70 and I didn't think to take a picture. When I looked at it I was trying to talk myself out of buying it and then I started looking around at sharps and now I think it might be a good deal.

Prices on these things are all over the place and they sure seem to appreciate in value...If you want one and aren't going to hurt yourself, my advise is to go for it

If it has the word “Cabela’s” on it that doesn’t really help the value. I’ve seen them from 800-1200…..

Like has been said, prices are all over the place but it’s a high quality gun and at anything under $1,000 I’d probably snatch it up.

Come on cpj tell me how you really feel. OK I will go back tomorrow and see if it is still there. IIRC it doesn't have cabelas on the rifle anywhere but I will look closer. And I don't own a 45-70 so there is that.

And if you’re nice I know where you can get some free bullets. Load them with some trail boss and have a ball.

Trailboss in .45-70 is where giggles are born.

Where are the pics of this new Sharps of yours?

I went back to my lgs and unfortunately is was still sitting in the rack. My gun fund was too low to buy it but had enough for a down payment. I can't get my phone and computer to play nice but I sent a picture to cpj so hopefully he will post it. It is a plain girl, the one next to it in the rack is much prettier but over twice as much so I will have this one and be enjoying it instead of wishing for one. Unlike a woman if I decide to trade someday I can get my money back. It is drilled and tapped for a peep sight and I am going to look into that.

She ain’t THAT plain. I see some figure in that wood and the case hardening is pretty and in excellent condition. A little wax on the stock might surprise you. Kinda like a little lipstick on a cute “next door” girl. I would have brought her home too!
