If you’re one of the only ones qualified to handle a Glock foaty, this deal may be for you.
If it was a 9mm I’d have already ordered several

If memory serves - and it may not - its pretty easy to convert a .40 to a 9mm. (??)

That's almost Hi-Point prices!

I have 9mm barrels for all my .40cal Glocks because……..options.

For that price, you can get a Glock and buy a conversion barrel for less than a………..Glock.

DISCLAIMER - my knowledge base is in the differences between the gens and the calibers; not so much on how well the conversions work.

Gen 2/3 9 and .40 used the same recoil spring. The Gen 4 tried that initially, but the stouter .40 spring had some issues with 9mm, so they ended up with 2 part numbers. Most of the conversion and "build a not-a-Glock" shenanigans are based around Gen 3 spec stuff - a Gen 4 might end up wanting that different spring.

The trigger mechanism housings for the different calibers position the ejector tips differently for the different widths of the cartridges: 9mm bends inward; .40 is straight; .45 gets bent outward slightly. If I was REALLY serious about the conversion working well, I'd probably swap the TMH.

A skinny 9mm on a .40 breech face will not get as much grip from the extractor. This MIGHT be improved by swapping out the plastic extractor depressor plunger bearing for one of the older style from before they started shaping the extractors to do double-duty as a loaded chamber indicator. The older bearings are about 1/16" thicker and put that much more forward pressure on the extractor spring. This would be a good bit of insurance.

I wouldn't buy a .40 with the intent to build a 9mm. You save maybe a hundred bucks and it still has the potential for being a little half-assed. However, if you already have the .40, like Zee says, options. I'm teetering on the conversion fence my self. On the one hand, I grew to dislike the .40 rather intensely, no longer shoot the thing, and am about to acquire my fourth Glock 9mm. On the other, I spent 15 years instructing with my Gen 3 G22 and there are some attachment issues that have thus far prevented selling it off.

One could swap any number of after market slides on the “lower”.
Sell off the .40 parts to offset the cost.

It’s just….no one wants a .40 anymore.

Exactly. A fair amount of false economy in building that Frankengun. I think I'll keep my .40 that way just to have a launch platform in the caliber, but the way 9mm is taking over, I wonder how long it'll be until the .40 S&W is on the oddball shelf with the .38 Long Colt . . .

I will say, it IS a hell of a price on a Gen 4. The beefier G4 recoil spring didn't fully correct the mostly .40-related issue of the firing pin and firing pin safety chewing on each other (the Gen 5 addressed that nicely - ironic they're mostly all 9mm), but (a) the parts are relatively cheap to load up on considering the entry price of the gun, and (b) it's a redundant safety as a backup against failure of trigger bar/firing pin engagement anyway, which is a pretty hard spec to kill with factory Glock guts.

Recoil spring, firing pin assembly, firing pin safety w/spring, locking block pin, magazine springs, and (rarely) a trigger spring and trigger pin. Keep those parts on hand, you'll be good for a long time. That was mostly what I needed to change on Gen 3 .40's to keep them behaving. We didn't have the Gen 4's long enough for me to see more than the beginning of chatter between the FP and FPS and the odd FTF from a tired mag spring, but it was mostly the same gun with a stiffer recoil spring, and ultimately, I'd expect the same problems a little farther along in the round count cycle. The .40's a high-intensity engine that sticks you with a race car maintenance cycle - not an issue if you plan for it and only have a few guns to deal with. In an institutional setting with a lot of guns and the added burden of teaching the LCD's to shoot with 40% more recoil, it sucked balls. . .which is why it's fading away and the trade-ins are cheap.
