In my experience, Yeti hard coolers legitimately work better than their imitators/competitors. Whether that matters or not is up to the end users. However, $400 for a SKILLET??

I'll bet amazon won't send you a cool logo.

I’ve not compared coolers, but I have a Yeti tumbler. (freebie)shotgunshooter3 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2023 3:35 pm In my experience, Yeti hard coolers legitimately work better than their imitators/competitors. Whether that matters or not is up to the end users. However, $400 for a SKILLET??
I’ve also got the Walmart version. (likely made by the same 7 year old Chinese girl who made the Yeti, Walmart just doesn’t require the child’s tears to be washed off completely like the Yeti)
In use, I’ve seen zero difference. And if there is, there isn’t $30+ difference.
Thread drift aside….$400 for a cast iron skillet?
You’re a SUCKER if you buy that.
I’m curious where they are made.

Marketing Wank 101:
The 12" Cast Iron Skillet was crafted in partnership with the cast iron masters at Butter Pat Industries. This cast iron skillet is hand cast, meaning it’s not machine-milled or machine-ground creating a smoother, thinner, and lighter weight design. It also comes pre-seasoned, polished smooth on all surfaces, and has an ergonomic design for easier handling.

Same thing, but “cheaper”

At least the Yeti is made in the USA.

If I were waste money on a 12 inch cast iron skillet, I would look at a Finex for something like $250. It has a nice coil wrap to the handle to insulate it from heat.

That being said, I have a Griswold and a Wagner.

I doubt it, HOWEVER, I can get 2 different sized Lodge skillets with different "Yellowstone" designs cast into the outside bottom (Cow skull on 12", Yellowstone brand on the 10.25") for <$30 each

And besides, everyone knows skillets don't go in cloth bags.
Paper is preferred. I use Piggly Wiggly bags.

Looks like the going rate for a Lodge 12" cast iron skillet is about $20-$25.
Pretty early on in the marriage, my wife - Little Miss Foodie - got a screaming deal on some All-Clad pots and pans. Multi-layered aluminum and stainless steel stuff for even heating. Pretty funny - I got the semi-apologetic, "Is it OK if I spend this money?" phone call which sounded kind of like you or me trying to explain the purchase of the GOOD handgun over the pedestrian one to the layman. . .
Anyway, that 12" All-Clad skillet ended up being a truly awesome piece of cookware and is one of my favorite pans. A quick search shows I can get a new one for $150 from Sur Le Table, who isn't know for being a discount house.
Unfortunately for Yeti, their cast iron skillet is poorly shaped for where I'm telling them they can store it.

I would think being "lightweight" would defeat the purpose of using cast iron to begin with. I think my wife has one of almost everything that Lodge makes a long with her collection of antique stuff. I personally think the Lodge 12" grill pan is the most awesome piece of cast iron cookware out there.

Re: Hey Yeti fans...
This. I’ve used them side by side with my Pelican (which is still a damn good cooler) and the Yeti did work better keeping the ice longer out in the sun in beach and boat.shotgunshooter3 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2023 3:35 pm In my experience, Yeti hard coolers legitimately work better than their imitators/competitors. The rest of the Yeti stuff I own is just a product of if it’s not best at least I know it’s absolutely NOT going to suck as some of my other experiments have.
BUT, a $400 frying pan? Nope…

We bought a Yeti 45 and did not do our home work; while it keeps the right sized item cold well. it does not work well
for bringing items home from the store as many things are too tall for that cooler.

Re: Hey Yeti fans...
Time for a 125
Just be sure to bolt it to the truck bed
Re: Hey Yeti fans...
I would think a thicker cast iron skillet would be better, at least as far as I'm concerned. I recently bought a 12" skillet, "pre-seasoned" for about $25, IIRC. $400 for an iron skillet is abominable. (see what I did there?)
