What are you listening to?
Podcast wise, any reccomendations?
I find myself travelling a few hours at a time between sites fortnightly.
Instead of it being dead time I've started to look forward to it as an opportunity to catch up on some podcasts.
Listening to the Meateater podcast put me onto the Bear Grease podcast with Clay Newcombe, which has fast become my favourite of their offerings.
It's kind of documentary style with episodes about guys like Holt Collier, Asa Carter, Lewis Wetzel, Tecumseh and undercover game wardens etc.
and interviews with SME's about them, I love history and Clay spins a good yarn.
On a different note, I enjoyed the the Bridge podcasts done by Travis Haley, its a shame they haven't continued.
The interview he did with Tyler Vargas-Andrews, about his experience in Kabul manning the airport gates in the final days was heavy, worth listening too and gives a firsthand account of what a shambles it turned into, through no fault of the troops on the ground.

Re: What are you listening to?
I listen to to a podcast from the Dirty Jobs guy, Mike Rowe. It’s called That’s the Way I Heard It.
When he started it, it was very similar to the old Paul Harvey, The Rest of the Story. Each episode was 5-10 minutes long. 2-3 years ago he changed to a long-form format. It’s still a good.

I highly recommend this book if you want to learn more about Holt Collier. I just read it again for the 4th or 5th time.

I don’t do podcasts too much. The last one was as the family was driving into the Pacific Northwest, and my wife started listening to a serial killer podcast called “the Murder Squad”. Fun fact, the “golden triangle” of serial killers is in the Pacific Northwest, and we drove through a lot of the areas mentioned in the podcast.
Freaked the wife out.

MindFrame podcast by David J Moton.
A science fiction podcast. It’s not complete, but there’s 20 something episodes to binge. Very well written, but you have to pay attention.

Breakers podcast by Sammy Walsh and Sam Culper. A story of a disease outbreak, and a guy wandering the earth with his dog. Amazing story.
It was written BEFORE the Rona, but it’s frightening how similar the storyline is to the last few years.

It's definitely on my list, thanks for the recommendation.
They spoke a lot with Minor on the podcast, impressive speaker for sure. I'll check out Mike Rowe's podcast.
Re: What are you listening to?
Yeah they do interesting topics. And sometimes ones you don’t think will be interesting, they are. Regardless there’s enough **** jokes to keep me entertained.
Takes a bit to get their flow, but if you do, you’ll dig it.

Re: What are you listening to?
I’ve tried listening to podcasts. I just can’t do it. I don’t like hearing people talk.

Re: What are you listening to?
Some I do, some I don’t as far as podcasts go. Ones that are more or less books on tape, so called serial podcasts (like mindframe and breakers I mentioned) I dig. It’s just a person telling a story. It’s actually….just a book on tape called a podcast for marketing I guess.
Ones where discussions happen, I’m kinda picky. There was a Brit podcast I would like, if they would STFU and get on with the topic. I get enough inane rambling at home. I don’t desire to listen to it on purpose.

I'll be honest, first things that pop into my head when I hear PNW are Salmon tossing, Ted Bundy and urban decline.

The first thing that popped into my head was Starbucks, Bigfoot and the weirdos in Portland.Waipapa13 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2023 12:02 amHaha, brilliant coincidencebullsi1911 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 21, 2023 1:05 pm I don’t do podcasts too much. I don't think I've ever listened to a podcast before. I've tried audio books once but like Zee, I really don’t care to hear people talk. They'd have to be saying something incredibly interesting or speak in short 5 to 10 minute segments. Otherwise.... No.

I had hoped to listen to that Bear Grease podcast today on the way home from vacation but I didn’t get to. I’ll listen to it while I mow this week
Re: What are you listening to?
I also listen to History Unplugged.

Re: What are you listening to?
I'm a Joe Rogan fan personally. Its unfortunate that he's managed to become so controversial lately because he has a lot of interesting guests and in my opinion is an expert at guiding good conversations. A lot of more conservative leaning folks won't like him, but he is an avid hunter and ardently pro gun which will probably win a lot of people likely to be on this board.
"The Art of Manliness" is another interesting one, as is "99% Invisible."
"Last Podcast on the Left" is rather hit or miss. They have REALLY interesting subject material about supernatural phenomena, conspiracy theories, and other topics, but I find the hosts to be rather obnoxious and its definitely left leaning with the associated confirmation bias on some topics. Still worth a listen in many cases, such as their series on Lee Harvey Oswald.

Re: What are you listening to?
It’s been years since I’ve listened to the radio. Between podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube I have zero need for radio.
