It's all of you Guy's fault

Post by Kansashunter »

I bought an optic for a pistol today, after hearing everybody talking about them and my eyes have started to go downhill a little I decided to give it a try. I bought a holosun 507gr and mounted it on my FN 502. I haven't shot it yet so I haven't made up my mind if I like it. If nothing else it will be a possum shooter.

I don't know if it's dark. . .maybe just blurry?

Kansas you are cooked
You just bought one Holosun! Might drop PSA a not e to see if 10 lot pricing is available. in a few weeks you are going to NEED one for every iron sighted firearm you own. Of course you will also need mounting hardware and a laser bore sight for each caliber so you can quickly dial them all in.
That probably means drilling holes in vintage S&W revolvers, swapping out slides on top end 1911s who knows where it will end?

I know this sounds like heresy but at some point or another I MIGHT have the slide on my Wilson Combat milled for a high end optic. Hell I have no problems hitting 50 yards with it, I can’t imagine what a hoot it would be with a red dot on it 😎

In a similar boat. Maybe the resulting lines aren't sexy, but I'm figuring it kind of like this:

The B17 and other bombers of WWII were really pretty clunky aircraft without the Norden bomb sight to direct their cargo with some degree of accuracy. Any reasonably tight pistol with 50+ year old eyes behind it is going to be suffering from a similar limitation on its potential.

I will never be drilling holes in my revolvers, or 1911's. I have been looking for a new cc and if I find something I might put one on it. I figure this is a way to try it out and the ammo is a lot cheaper to shoot this one. I might move this one but I will probably get a closed emitter one. I will test this out, hopefully the weather will be a little better tomorrow and I can start playing with it. Wambli you know they make a rail that goes in the rear sight cut on a 1911. It makes the sight sit a little higher but it doesn't mess up your slide. We were just in your part of the world, we spent a week in Sedona.

I’ve been one of the lucky ones and at 65 my eyes are still picking up that front sight with no issues but now knowing what a difference for longer distances an optic makes on a handgun I starting to feel like leaving the WC without one is like having a Ferrari in the garage and not putting the available turbo option on it…

I’m not going to drill and mill everything I own. I don’t shoot most stuff enough and a great many of my guns are classic revolvers and I’ll never put optics on those. But a few pistols I think would benefit from the better technology. Again the WC keeps coming to mind and I’d love to have a 100 yards off hand steel ringer. They would make me giggle for hours at a time.

I know they make a rail for it but that gun is never getting sold and I believe optics are here to stay, so as soon as the segment settles and these manufacturers standardize on a footprint, AND they make something high end and sleek enough for the 1911 slim slide, I will probably take the plunge.

If I were you I would call up Wilson about fitting another slide to your frame, kind of like the STI project I was texting you about.

Also, Wilson has an optics mounting system of their own. No experience with it. https://wilsoncombat.com/wc-true-zero

Don't feel too bad. I just spent some of my 83 year old dad's money after showing him my Dagger with an optic a few weeks ago, and meeting him at a public range close to his house and letting him shoot it today.
Unfortunately, PSA is currently out of the 3moa Holosun 407s, so I have the a "notify me" email coming when they get back in stock
