Shot Sunday it was supposed to warm up some and there are E targets at the range. Well the server puked so we drug out paper and shot it. Made a long day waiting on the server then setting up for butts. Pulled on the range at 0815 it was 36F, at 5 PM it was 35F so not a lot of warming. FINALLY started to relax in the standing on the second string. I need to bring that chill pill to the Eastern games next week.
The second pic is what happens when you come up one click instead of the three you talked yourself out of at 300 yards. Freakin group was the size of my fist. Pasters are my first group.
@ 600 I think I am just not allowed to clean. Dropped #4. I made good wind calls, I just blew that shot and felt it. It was a close 9, but a 9 still.
Nope. I was pulling next to a target being shot by a shooter that did well at the S African Palma match that was just held, who was pair firing with a guy whos name always shows up near the big guns, and I may have seen a 9 or 3.
If it was easy, no one good would do it.
Still, overall I am shooting pretty well so far. Dont know if the winter sessions helped, but they didnt hurt. First EIC match is next Sun in NC, with 3 days of xtc before, and I have always liked shooting Butner so I have a shot at points.
767. . .Damned good! I managed to slog my way to Expert with a .308 bolt gun and stripper clips before I hung it up. Won most of my scalps from the 600 yard line, but unfortunately, that's not the entire match. The match-tuned AR was poking in around the edges when I was playing from about '95 to '10. Impressive what can be done with an 18# rifle that doesn't kick with no bolt handle to cycle.

All boats are lifted by the tide. The scores have gone up and the cuts have gotten higher. 96.85% is a master class score and it took me a while to break into that. High master, well.... I dont have that as a goal. For a point of reference, 95.6% is what it took to get points at Camp Perry last year, bronze award. (Master class is avg 95% on each string for 280 shots in a row. Expert is 92%?)
Since I have started to learn to read wind and not chase the spotter, the 600 has gotten better. The 224 moves a lot more than a 308. Adjusting to a heavier bullet may not have actually helped me, but I think it does so it does.
Bolt guns and Garands were my gateway drug.
So 308 bolt gun and strippers, you were shooting match rifle. That is a different world now.
Yep. It got to be a part time job which pretty much fried my weekends for the purpose of getting up stupid early to travel long distances to shoot 88 rounds. I wouldn't say it ceased to be fun, but it did get a bit strained.
Fragging a 2-3 week collection of plastic and cardboard milk and juice containers offhand at a hundred yards with the cast practice loads for the deer rifles has taken over as the main pass-time.

I have seen guys do that, chase points hard. They do get distinguished in 2 years, but most just quit shooting after that. On one hand I am irritated that my work sced keeps me from shooting and is slowing progress way down, on the other, odds of getting burnt out are not high.
