Re: New .357
A nice carbine. If it were mine I would never put a rail or an optic on it, but that's personal choice. Because it would take away from the handling of the piece and gain nothing.

What I like about wax is it isn't greasy. You can clean it off with a cloth. It's (I think) lanolin.

Back in the fold
A couple of years ago, I got out of the reloading effort. I sold most of my reloading stuff to a friend who reloads. Anyway, this week I decided to get back into it with what I had left, namely 22 Hornet stuff and 7.9 J. Luckily, my friend had stored the dies and was able to come up with them. In my...

Re: Stories of My First Rifle. . .Sort Of
My first .22 was a cheap pull bolt rifle with a hardwood stock. I shot plenty of squirrels with it but I always as a kid wanted a Winchester or a Remington. I shot a squirrel on Dec 26 and still remember the wonderful smell of rifle powder on a crisp morning. I think I could go to that exact spot to...

Re: Mossberg 583, my latest project
My BIL had one he got while stationed in Korea. I used to hunt with it, squirrels. I can't remember who made it, as I recall it started with :KK". It didn't have a safety on it, whether by design or if it fell off. I killed a lot of squirrels with it. A BA gun like your Mossberg would make an i...

That's a fine rifle and it looks perfect. I wonder if they make it in .22 Hornet. No, I don't wonder; I can't afford to wonder.

Re: So I picked up this Mauser
If I liked the gun a lot, I'd get it rechambered/rebarreled to something useful. I think I remember the barrel is 20 inches, maybe it's been shortened before. Twenty inches seems awful short, doesn't it? The process takes some time and research. You're not the first member of the board to get wooed ...

Re: So I picked up this Mauser
Sorry about that. I got confused by numbers. I had to delete my entire post as it made no sense. However, what I can remember is the length of 45 mm. That's awfully short for a 7.65 cartridge. With that abbreviated case capacity, makes one wonder why it's got a long range sight on it.

Re: Almost resisted.....New 22
I like lever action .22s. The first gun I ever bought was a Winchester 250, back in 1964. I still have it. And it's in good shape. When I bought it, new, it had a 1/2" scope on it. I'm thinking about replacing that scope so it looks like it did when I bought it.

Re: Just when I thought I was done……they pull me back in!!
Outstanding. I had one but not nearly as nice about 5 years ago. I reloaded for it, bought bp for it, cast my own bullets, and did not do the rifle justice. You are the owner of a nice piece.

I can't find a 6.5x45 in COTW. There's a 6.5 x 52, which is a 25-35 Winchester, but it's rimmed.

Re: Unertl recreated.....
I love Unertls. However, as mounted on a BP rifle, I doubt it would afford the elevation beyond 150 yards before you'll be looking at the barrel. If it's a good scope, and today, most scopes are, it would look good on a .22 Hornet.

I've seen the oil bottles listed as Vaseline containers in English terms. Makes sense, as it's not runny like oil.

Re: Mausers
Cigarette rifles are the best bang for your buck. The workmanship far excels the price. They're mostly in 06 and 8mm (rarely), sold originally to a GI for a carton of Camels. If you know a dealer who is a buddy, you can get theme for $250 more or less. Your dealer pays about half that for whomever h...

30-06. The other is 7.9 J 9 x 57 J, which limits it. Bullets hard to find, loaded ammo impossible to find. I finally found a die det for it. I wish it were 7x57. Most cigarette guns are in 30-06, if sold to GIs.

I checked out the Lymans on guild guns with the German Gun collector's forum when I got mine, which is the same as the one on yours. They were put on guild guns back in the day according to them. I say Lyman, but the sight doesn't say Lyman. It is marked with a d?eer leaping into a circle. Is that ...

Here are a couple. One is a cigarette gun, I'm assuming. Got the cute bolt handle, checkering is good, got a recoil pad. Sometime after WW 2, a nice gun. Cigarette guns don't bring much money and are well-made in general and are great bang for the buck. https://i.postimg.cc/8C4LNpRY/cigarette.jpg TH...

Re: Upgrade to my M1A
My M1A weighed 10 pounds, in wood stock. I got rid of it last year. I qualified on the M 14 in 1967, basic and AIT. I prefer the looks of the walnut stock. I don't know why it was so heavy. The gas plug was difficult to remove, had to heat it up and get a cheater bar. Another thing I don't understan...

Leather is a better sling but web is more correct for the time period. It works fine for shooting as well.
