Excellent!

I'm trying to encourage the trades but failed in doing so with my daughter. She picked nursing for college. She's 17 and will be graduating HS in a month or so. She never had any interest in nursing but probably felt the pressure of being handed a list and the old, "Okay, pick what you want to do for the rest of your life." Thats an overwhelming thought as a kid. And she's being rushed by a scholarship at that.

These are being destroyed for science. The science of how to put the sharp to them and not foul up the good blades.

Oldest did precision machining...... Doing good
Middle did Aviation Electronics....... Doing good (although different job)
Youngest did welding.................... Doing good. Has his own business

Middle went to Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. Does have some student loans but <1/5 of wife's nieces who went into nursing. He does fire systems and alarms. I told him a job like that is barely better than being a piss boy, but he's making good money anyway.

The best way to get into Nursing is going the associate degree route. Community colleges are a LOT cheaper and you get the same license

Spot on. Then ,if you should want to advance your education the hospital in many cases will cover the tab and frequently at 100%.

Well I made some really good priming compound that I'm proud of. Tomorrow I'm going to stay late at the shop and make a die thatll punch out and form percussion cap cups to put it in. You literally can't find percussion caps unless you want to bend over and let the seller have their way with you.

Better than Psychology that all her friends are taking because they want to help people and its easy. As long as she doesnt pick a school that will drive her into massive debt, she will have a career. In PA there are state schools like Slippery Rock that are very highly rated for nursing. Might be something like that near you.

My oldest wanted to do Psy, I told her to practice this phrase "Do you want fries with that"? because 4y psy are a dime a dozen. She did PSU and is in cyber security doing OK. Still working on her loans, financial acumen inherited from mom.
Middle is a nerd. Did Mech eng from PSU. His starting salary was almost much as I make. He passed that. His loans will be paid off in 8 months, got out of school during the coof scare. Definitely Scotch Irish he be.
Last took every single scholarship she could write for. Another PSU grad in Chem E. I think her total loans were 11K.

My son went into the Air Force right out of college and the AF paid for a full Masters degree for him while on active duty. Not a bad deal for him or me.

My daughter decided in college first. My deal with her was you take loans to pay and when grades come in an A in a course gets me to pay 100% of those credits, a B 75%, C 50% and D-F come out of your pocket. She was more interested in the beach than pre-law (Florida College) so she accumulated a healthy tab on loans. Then she joined the Air Force and as a recruiting incentive they paid them off. I guess she outsmarted me… 😁

I paid my own tuition but it was far less expensive then than now. A week as a painting contractor paid for a semester of tuition. years after that I took 2 basic machine shop classes evenings 3 days / week. In the second one we did run projects on Bridgeport milling machines... ok it was aluminum only but I learned quite a lot.

First, anyone that can’t walk around their house in low light assertively must have just moved in and/or the furniture got rearranged by the wife. Otherwise anyone I know can navigate their house in low ambient light with no issues under any circumstances. I don’t need to be playing Ninja walking around with my firearm. What I have done several times is walk around with a clear eye to asses and reassess my safe shooting lanes and directions, tweaking and improving my HD plan as I go along. You don’t need a gun for that..

Second, if you’re going to be hunting for a bad guy(s) in your house you better have a REALLY good reason for it like your kid is in another bedroom and you have to go get them. Otherwise, stay in your room, call 911 and let professionals that get paid to do this crap for a living clear the house for you while you stay on the phone behind cover or at least concealment. Going out gives away ANY advantage you might have since the bad guy(s) can just wait in hiding under cover or concealment and fry you before you can even figure out what’s going on. Professionals know this veeeeeeeerrrrrrrryyyyy well and expend thousands of rounds training for it. I’m sure no one here does.

Third if you HAVE to go actively hunting in your house you better bring your A game of attitude, weapons and willingness to die… and not a dusty J frame and your best intentions. You might encounter some teenager with a pocket knife, or 4 armed thugs with shotguns and then what??? You brought yourself WILLINGLY into a situation that you had NO plan for and no tactical knowledge of what you were getting into. Silly, silly you…

My wife and I have a great game plan, we both jump behind the bed (solid walnut furniture with super high density foam mattress, try shooting through that) on the side opposite the bedroom door and she calls 911 while I cover the door. We are BOTH armed.

We’ll announce rather clearly and loudly that the police have been called and that we are armed and ready to defend ourselves. If anyone shows up to that door that is not a police officer that has been verified as inside the house by the 911 operator on the phone, and CLEARLY a identified themselves, he or them will get a rain of hell on them and they won’t even know where it’s coming from. THAT is a CLEAR tactical advantage that everyone is so willing to give up…

And speaking of A game, my HomeDefense setup is not my EDC, though my EDC (actually 1-3 of them) live on the top of my nightstand. BUT if things go bump in the night and/or the alarm goes off I have a 9mm AR with two 32 round mags inserted (attached to each other with a clip) loaded and ready to go on a safety flip of my thumb, there are another 6 loaded sticks close by. The AR is equipped with an optic sight, a REALLY BRIGHT military grade light and a laser as a backup to the Red Dot.

And isn’t it time we gave up on the “light gives away your position” rookie stuff. I’d rather suck start my own pistol than try to go clear a house without a light attached to my weapon. When I flip that switch, whatever room I’m in will feel and look like the surface of the sun, to MY advantage.

Serial number one is off the machine. Playing with finishing techniques. Hoping to bead blast and tumble and move on. Sanded the flats on this one. The stock comes with mill finish. Its not bad, but it’s not acceptable as a finished product. Have another on the machine currently. I’ll bead blast it tomorrow.
