Another day out in BLM land.

Post by Wambli Ska »

Tired of opening boxes after the move so grabbed a few guns and headed out to my favorite shooting spot. But first a few hours of driving through some of the best desert roads I’ve found.

Crazy, 60° in the valley and I’m here in less than an hour.

Then headed to the “range”. No formal targets today, just shooting stuff that was there. There’s a bunch of 5 gal buckets all over this hillside and all sorts of other miscellaneous stuff to shoot of varied sizes. It’s a little bit of a dump but it’s pretty localized.

Today was old school day. The Indy Jones tribute S&W 1917 with a whole can of 45acp in clips made me giggle for a long while. Amazing how well that old gun shoots even at distances that it shouldn’t.

The SxS Ithaca Lewis made a bucket about 30 or so paces away dance for a while. Looked like a colander when we got done with it. Gun just points where I look and both barrels soot to same POA sooo, happy 😎

I also shot the 1876 Centennial rearranging stuff all over the hillside with 350gr Berry’s plated bullets and a new 300 Hornady Interlock HP round I’m working on. Shot at an oak pallet on the heavy lumber side and damn, you’d thought it was struck by dynamite. I think it’ll work for hunting 👍🏻

The pretty 1873 in .45 Colt was there too so I blew through a few boxes of .45Colt ammo just grinning through it. Both lever actions are in cases in the pictures.

All in all a good afternoon👍🏻👍🏻

More snow in sight than we have👍, I need to shoot my 1917, keep forgetting about it, need to order moon clips and the tool

Days like that spoiled me from going to "organized" ranges.

Thanks for the pics.

We got more today, even some flurries in the valley. It’s great since I’m taking the granddaughter skiing Monday 😎

I just bit the bullet and ordered a metric 💩ton of clips and the tool so I can load them while watching TV. That can of ammo and another just like it are all loaded just for the 17 with swaged soft lead, low powder charge and the bullets are roll crimped to they don’t back out of the case under recoil. But it’s a PIA that I can’t use them on my Ruger Birdshead 3.5” Vaquero because they won’t chamber in that gun so I have to keep them separate.

Plus the gun, just like Dr. Jones original, was originally chambered to .455 so FMJ military ammo can be iffy as accuracy goes. Soft swaged 230gr works well enough, but, I just bought a few hundred cases of .45 Auto Rim and I’m going to work up a load using 260gr Webley hollow based bullets just for this gun. If that works out well I’ll load a few hundred just for the ‘17 and call it good 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Yep…. It’s amazing to just step out of the car, set up your stuff and blaze away!!! No one around to “keep an eye on you” or enforce some bull💩 made up rules or impose their little **** overcompensating overblown “authority”, or worse of all, doing stupid stuff to endanger MY life.

Yeah this is going to be fun 😎

I’d totally forgotten I’d ordered the bullets for it.

BLM...Black Lives Matter? Something you've been holding back?

Seriously, Glad you got out to burn some powder.

And I’m not done opening boxes and those heavy duty tubs I use for moving. Many of those I haven’t seen in years!
