You get your self a digital level. Oh my God it’s battery powered! And digital! The horror!
So anyway, you can clamp your rifle in any angle you desire, no need to get fussy about making sure it’s level.
Put the gauge on the rail, and zero it. Now it’s referencing the rail, and not “true” level.
Slap the scope in, place the level on top of the cap and adjust till it reads zero. Easy peasy.
They are accurate to within .1 of a degree, which is better than most eyeballs are gonna be able to judge with traditional scope mounting type levels.

I purposefully placed the rifle at a stupid angle just for illustration. Pics are in reverse order. But you get the drift.

I use this torque driver. $39 and beats hell out of the wheeler fat wrench. All metal housing, and made in Taiwan instead of China. Typically Taiwanese tooling is better quality.

And yeah, the QD AR mount looks a little goofy, but I was trying a cheapass QD mount.

Good stuff.
Thing that's been annoying me lately is scopes that don't have a big flat spot on top.

Another easy way to get a scope on square is to drop a plumbline in a door opening and line up your vertical crosshair on it. I have a bit of line and a nut for the weight. You have to get the rifle level but it works every time without spending money

Same way I do it. Most rifles always have some flat reference point which is a necessity when I'm doing a drill and tap. Bolt raceways, bottom of reciever, etc...

Thanks, that is really cool! More toys to buy cheap.

DONT buy the level from harbor freight if you see it. It’s $10 more, and it’s SLOW to respond. If you move it, it takes about 2 seconds to “catch up”. You’ll chase your tail trying to use it. Ask me how I know.

A tare feature on a level. . .now that is clever and worth investigating for a host of reasons.
I've been using - and will likely continue to use - the totally analog and non-electric Segway Reticle Leveler because I have it and it works, but it does appear to be discontinued. Why they bothered to put a bubble level in the thing when it has no bearing on aligning crosshairs to the plumb line of a rifle, I couldn't tell you, but the rest of it serves.

It’s a very handy feature. Super handy to have around the shop. I use it for setup in the mill and drill press. Are there more precise ways of indicating parts to be machined? Yes.Bigslug wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2024 3:20 pm A tare feature on a level. . .now that is clever and worth investigating for a host of reasons.

Is .1 degrees accurate enough for 90% of work? Also yes.
But for find angles of parts etc, it’s a great tool to have for all around work.
